Maz Murray
Maz will be working with a group of young people in partnership with Electric Storm Youth in Lancing.
Maz Murray works across film, writing and performance. They uses satire, surrealism and melodrama to discuss queer and trans identity, class and the complexities of public life. They repurpose pop cultural forms such as music videos, documentary, talk shows, social media content and cinema with a DIY approach. Their work charts the creation of artificial landscapes – new towns, shopping centres, theatrical spaces, imagined utopias – and the struggles that shape them.
They published the neo-noir novel Jaw Filler, co-authored with Charlie Markbreiter, via Montez Press in 2025 and presented a performance work, Plot Hole, at Studio Voltaire in collaboration with Munesu Mukombe and Bri Leung. They had their first institutional solo exhibition ‘Principal Boy’ at Focal Point Gallery in 2024. Their work has shown at ICA, Turner Contemporary and TOMA. Maz studied Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts (2017) and was a recipient of the LOEWE/Studio Voltaire Studio Award (2023–25). His films have screened at Aesthetica, Uppsala, GAZE and TITE film festivals.
